Default D60 & SB-600...off camera?

i'm am going to pick up a used SB-600 for my D60 and I would like to be able to use it off camera.

Can anyone post links or list exactly what else I will need to pick up to make this work? The least expensive option available would be great. It doesn't matter to me if it needs to be attached to a cord or not as I will be using it mainly to start indoors with portraits of family.

Any help would be great.
Thanks

Unfortunately the D60 doesn't incorporate the commander mode to let you use the Nikon CLS to wireless trigger the SB600. There are some alternatives that you can use of course but money is always the issue.

If you want to go down the wireless trigger route you can always get a pair of transceivers like the Pocket Wizards. The only issue is that the SB600 doesn't have a PC sync input and requires a hot shoe adapter. You can purchase the adapter through Ebay for 13 dollars.

I believe you can also trigger the SB600 through a PC sync cord that is connected to both the flash and camera. Again you'll need a hot shoe adapter for this to work.

Hope this helps.

Cheaper (though reportedly less reliable) than Pocket Wizards are the Gadget Infinity triggers Gadget Infinity :: Digital Camera :: Flash Trigger :: Cactus 4-Channel Wireless Flash Trigger Set V2s

Another option is a Nikon or a 3rd party TTL Sync Cable. A third party one will be cheaper than the Nikon brand one too if you're just getting into it and want to learn. I use a 3rd party one and haven't had any problems so far.

Least expensive is pretty much opposite of PocketWizards, unfortunately. Haha.

The cheapest route is probably Cactus V4's, as Nicole mentioned. There is a middle-of-the-road option, and that would be CyberSyncs. I use them, and I love them! With either of these options, though, you lose iTTL capability, and that means you'll have to shoot in full manual. Personally, I prefer full manual when it comes to lighting.

With the CyberSyncs, you'll want the CST on your camera's hotshoe and a receiver (I would say either the CSR or CSRB) connected to your flash. Since the SB-600 doesn't have a PC sync port, you'll want the Speed Light Foot Adapter (SLFA) (last item on third row) on your flash so you can plug the receiver into it.

Other than that, you'll just need a light stand, flash/umbrella bracket, and an umbrella, and you'll be all set!

Thanks for the replies everyone.
And thanks natek313 for your help on my other thread about getting the lighting kit or the SB-600 and all the links you've provided as well. It's really appreciated.

I will look into finding all this good stuff and in the meantime will play around with the SB-600 on the camera.

Thanks again!

If you're just looking for an off-camera strobe, why not look into the Nikon SB-26? You can find one on eBay for around $100-$125. I've heard great things about it as an off-camera unit, and l'm even looking into getting one myself.

Plus, it has a built-in optical slave, so if you do end up getting the SB-600 down the road, you can use the SB-26 as a slave, triggered by the SB-600.

Just a thought.

Thanks...I will see if I can find one.

Another question for you.
I found an ad on Kijiji for some Strobe Lights. Any idea if these would be good? He's asking $75 for them.

here's what the ad says...
I have a set of Strobe lights that i bought about a year ago off Ebay brand new, I have used them MAYBE 3 times comes with trigger cord, 2 light bulbs, 2 umbrellas

I email him and asked what brand the lights are and about the bulbs. He said he doesn't know what brand the lights are and they don't have any stickers or anything on them and the bulbs are 110 ws.

Below is a picture from the ad.
