Kit - Canon 50D with a 430EX speedlight
I often use flash in bright sunlight to stop motion. It gives a great effect with kids screaming around on bikes, balls or skateboards... or with a beach/ fishing excursion where the flash just blows out the shadows and keeps the colours vibrant.. For some unknown reason (there must be a reason I just cannot find it) in all 3 manual modes (Tv, Av, and full M) and regardless of the settings I input, the camera defaults to a max shutter speed of 1/250 The aperture is usually at F9 or greater to prevent a blown out sky and DOF. How do I stop this max shutter default kicking in. Last edited by gturner; 01-18-2010 at 04:06 PM. |

That's correct for the Canon as well. To go above the max camera flash sync, you need to use a canon flash and set the flash to high speed sync.

Thanks - clearly the main reason for the lack of info was that I just did not know the term. "High speed sync"
Been driving me crazy for ages Let me rephrase - I knew the term, just did not understand how to apply it or why it acted differently across the different modes Last edited by gturner; 01-19-2010 at 07:24 PM. |
