Default How do I make this shot?

http://www.krijtenberg.nl/css/home.jpg

Trying to get a shot like this for my website. I have a canon xsi with a 430EXII Flash and tripod. What other materials do I need and how do I set them up?

Only difference is I want two people in the shot with the light in the middle of them both.

One strobe will not be enough. You'll need some additional lights - at least one more. If I only had a two light setup, I would try something like this... (see attached)

You need a strong overhead light source. (directional ceiling "can" light) and a w/b matched light source (flash) for the background.

This appears to be a simple three light setup. A very weak fill light above and behind the camera to keep some detail in the shadows, a background light aimed at the background to seperate the subject's dark suit from the dark background and the main light which was either a snooted or gridded strobe behind the subject aimed down and forward so it illuminates his left shoulder/chest area and the desk in front of him.

If you want shadows from the arms on the table as black as they are on your example, you could try to make it with several exposures if you don't have that many lights. First, light the table, then, light the body, and last, light the background. Blend it all together and voila!

Or you could focus on getting the table and the guy right, and make the rest in Photoshop. It looks like this image has been through some editing to look this way.

Good luck.
