Hello there. I'm new to this web site and this forum (loving it so far!). I hope I'm not breaking any rules, but I would like to pose a question as I'm very recently getting into off camera lighting and loving it.
I'm sure we've probably all seen this picture: Canon 1D1.jpg (I obviously did not take this picture nor claim any credit for it etc etc) This may sound rather outlandish, but I'd really like to get this same effect, but with my car! I'd like to know what kind of set up and equipment I would need. I've got a Canon 7D and a 430EXII speedlight. I can borrow another 430EXII if needs be. I also presume I'd have to find a pretty dark place to photograph it, but any tips / suggestions / advice on how I can go about doing this would be very much appreciated! Thanks! |

don't need a completely dark room.
control the ambient light (dark room) with your shutter speed. the higher the shutter speed the darker the room. put your flash up high pointing down towards the card. you might need to flag it or put a snoot on it so the light doesn't spill into the room/garage. use your f/stop and/or flash power to control the light hitting the car. use ISO 100. tinker.

That's great - thanks for your tips.
Basically, if I can get the car somewhere dark enough I can try long exposure w multiple low-power flash pops. Otherwise, I'll try and get somewhere dark-ish and go with oldwolf's advice. If/when I can find a good spot for it I'll post the results! Cheers Roger |
