Default Uncharted Waters

I'm shooting 70 high school band members this Friday. I picked the stage to shoot them on. In the next room is a make up room with 6 stations, so everyone can fix them selves up.

The stage is approximately 50x30 foot, with at least a 20 foot ceiling. The floor, and ceiling are both flat black. When I first checked it out they had a white curtain along the back wall, which I'll be using as a side wall. My main concern was the white wall, due to light reflecting off it, and all the shiny instruments the kids will be holding.

I went back today to recheck things out, and found the stage has 10 sets of black velvet curtains that can be opened or closed. One is right in front of the white one I saw when I first picked the location. If I close the front stage, and back stage curtains I'll have around a 50x20 shooting area, with black floors, walls, and backdrop.

I'll be using two B800's, one in a a 30x60 softbox, the other bounced with a 60" umbrella, and I'm going to use my SB600 snooted on a boom stand as a hair light. I'll place the kids at least 15 foot from the backdrop, and have my camera 15 to 20 foot from them.

In my mind I'm thinking with the right amount of spill light on the floor, this should look pretty cool. I don't want it to look like their floating in a black void.

Having never shot under these conditions.....am I way off track?

I forgot to add that these will be individual portraits, not a group shot of the band. That will be shot outside on the field.
