This post talks about lighting a portrait with a single LED.
Just wondering what the best type of LED light would be best for this. Anyone have examples? Links to the lights they've used? |

LEDs don't really produce enough light for portrait photography. The article was using LEDs as fill light better results could probably have been done using a simple white or colored card to help fill the shadows in. Using a fill card will give you a larger light source for even softer shadows, it's also free or a lot less expensive then LEDs.
LEDs light source is very small resulting in very sharp strong shadows which you generally want to avoid in portrait photography. This is not to say there isn't a situation where strong sharp shadows would be cool. To produce enough light to shoot at a reasonable aperture and shutter speed using LEDs you will need lots of them and probably the super bright LEDs. You will then need to wire them all together and create some type of bracket to evenly space these small light sources. A single led even a super bright one just isn't bright enough for portrait photography. What exactly would you want to do with LEDs? Light painting with LEDs works great.
