What I'm using for location studio lighting

Shot this with a Canon 50D, 24-70mm f/2.8, 430EX II fired into an unbrella using a pocketwizard on the right side and another umbrella on the left side with a 100 watt fill light.

Is that a shoot though umbrella? You will also have better luck using some art core foam board as a reflector instead of a desk lamp. This will keep the color balance between the light sources the same if not very close. You can also try spray painting the art core foam board with some gold paint so it acts more like a gold reflector. You can of course also use dedicated reflectors. The problem with these however is you need someone to hold them or need some type of stand to hold them. Get a large art core foam board you can wedge two pieces together so they stand on their own. You can also get them very large and pretty inexpensive. To get a reflector that's 6 - 8 feet tall can be expensive. Foam board is cheep and replaceable, at least when starting.

Transporting foam board can be somewhat of a hassle depending on how large you want.

Looks to be silver reflective umbrellas or white.. Note the flash shadow is in front of the umbrella in the eye. I would recommend reflectors also or a second flash. I use a 2 strobe setup on location.
