Default My DIY Beauty Dish

Made one of the "Koval" bamboo bowl beauty dishes the other day. Day 'fore yesterday, I saw my neighbor and his kids playing in the back yard. Easy target. No one refuses free pics from their photographer neighbor.

Here are 2

The light was super easy to make and I used this as a guideline and tweaked it to my flavor.

With the exception of the vignette blur on the first, the colorize on the 2nd, and some slight sharpening, they're unmodified. You can clearly see the ring in the catchlights on the 2nd.

Taken on my deck at dusk. 1/4 power speedlight. ISO 400, 1/250 sec (to pull in just a touch of ambient).

A couple more shots from the same sitting are here.

Cheers
Steve

I like it! I just built my own beauty dish for a 400 Ws Lumedyne. It's a great tool to have in your arsenal!

NIce shots and I'm glad you have such cooperative neighbors. I built a DIY beauty dish sometime back and love it. In the right situation, it is perfect.

More pics on my lighting blog. The link is below.

If your "other" half is the slightest bit handy, it's a super easy build.

Cheers,
Steve
