Default diffusers

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question. I have a Canon camera w/ a 580 Speedlite II flash. I was wondering when it is appropriate to use a diffuser over the flash vs just bouncing the flash with its white card. Thank you. Laurie

There are dozens. The most common are the Stofen types that fit onto the head of the flash. There are others like the Omnibounce and so on that are available too. Interfit also make a line of accessories called Strobies that all attach to a speedlight flash head.

I believe the OP was asking when to use a diffuser. I use mine most of the time. The white card is useful for catchlights and I really don't use it as much.

Thank you. Why don't you use the white card to bounce the flash?
