Default From my first attempt with an umbrella

As I mentioned earlier, I am just entering into the stobist world. Here is my first attempt at using a single umbrella. Can't wait to get more. Any thoughts to my lighting? Please over look the back ground. That is next

Thumbs up

I don't know much, but I know the lighting on your model's face is very nice. looks a little darker on her shoulder, but you were probably trying to highlight her face anyway. Like I said, I don't know much, but it looks like a good first try to me.

That looks great to me, immensely better than what you can do with your pop-up flash (and it makes me want to go ahead and get the stand + umbrella for the SB600 I ordered yesterday). Good job!

Better watch out. You then find you want to order another SB, then another stand+umbrella, then.......

it looks like the right side of her face is a bit overexposed. not sure if you were trying to do that or if it's my monitor. if it's overexposed then you can always try pulling the light further away from her face.

Like oldwolf, i think the right side of her face is a little blown, but this is great for your first try. I imagine you were probably getting to many shadows on her left side when you had the right side properly exposed. That's the bad thing about only having one light. But the good thing is that that is easily fixed with a reflector. Some really great inexpensive reflectors are car windshield screen thingys (sorry I don't know the official name LOL), white foam board or mat board, or just cover some cardboard with aluminum foil. By placing the reflector opposite your light, you can back your light off a little bit and keep the lighted side properly exposed. Good luck, I look forward to seeing more!
