Default Light set

Hmmm...so I've been reading the posts on lighting equipment and I'm hoping you guys can help me. My super wonderful husband surprised me with a set of continuous lamps for Christmas and I've been practicing but I'm having a hard time with the white balance. Any advice on that? I do have some pictures that have come out the way I wanted them but I feel like it's hit and miss. So if you any of you have advice on how to work with these lights it's much appreciated. Thanks!

Are you setting a custom white balance using a card? The one time I worked with lights, that's what we did and believe, the pictures were perfect.

Too funny!!! My husband did the same thing! But, as for your lighting set, it's probably tungsten balanced (3200K). You can look on the bulbs (or the box they came in) and verify. I was in a good photo store on Monday and they were telling me that when you shoot with extra lights, you have to balance the light and not mix it. Meaning you can't have tungsten lights in a room with flourescent otherwise you will have different lighting colors on different parts of the subject. So, your lighting issues might be that. I ended up getting some daylight balanced flourescents so they would match my flash, I can use them outside and they wouldn't be so hot as the bulbs that came with the set.

If not, then you can set your balance to the K value if your camera has it. Mine does, but I don't know what you have.

Other than those two things, I don't know what to tell you without seeing a problem photo. HTH.
