Question bunch of straws in lighting kit

This will bring a chuckle I know to some, but I just received a lighting kit that came with multiple dark straws. I have an idea that these are to make your own grid snoot filter?? Is this right. Why would they sent the straws and not a box to make the snoot? By the way they also include some black tape.

Advice on making these is MORE than welcome!!!!

Strobist kit from mpex?

Yeah, I didn't really know what to do with the reflective paper or the straws either. I figured I could in some way jerryrig a snoot, a grid or gobos, but I couldn't really picture how to do it in a useful way.

Talking Black straws and snoots

What a wonderful post in Strobist. I am becoming SO addicted to these two sites that I can not get my job done at work. It is like having an never ending magazine that answers all of my questions. Thanks so much for your post.
