Default Strobist - Baby shoot #2 - minus towel

As the general consensus was that the towel was interfering with the lighting in this shot I thought I would post one taken with the same lighting set up, but minus the towel.

This is following a tone curve adjustment to increase the contrast a little.

Bathtime #2

Strobist info:
1 flash shot through an umbrella at 1/2 power front right
1 bounced off the ceiling at 1/2 power diagonal left
Reflector on floor level front right.

Exif data
Camera Canon EOS 450D
Exposure 0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperture f/8.0
Focal Length 50 mm
ISO Speed 200
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash On, Fired

Better? Worse? Any comments greatly appreciated!

LOL!
This isn't the critique section, but I think the "w/out towel" picture didn't get any comments for reasons other than the lighting.

From a lighting perspective these both work better than the image in the other post....Such a small change can make such a notable difference.

It's always good to hear a comment or something though, otherwise you think hundreds of people think it's rubbish and you are not sure why! Maybe I should post em in critique too...

Thanks for your comment, it stopped the tumbleweed!

nice shot!
But.. ...I am still prefer the traditional shot by Susan, frankly. I believe Susan is using wider aperture that focuses on the front part rather than the whole part. And, her but looks a bit distraction for me.. (i mean for me..). I will zoom in further to fill the frame so that yellow toy duck will be placed further left bottom corner a bit, and her eyes will be further away to right top corner a bit. The inclusion of other parts make her looks fat so I may move my camera to left a bit... ..;D

And I prefer the horizontal shot ..

Well, I have learned your lighting technique for baby .. thanks ;D

Note: please refer to pic 1.

Well, I am just a noob.. so this is a noob opinion..

Thanks for your response, although I am not sure I agree that she looks fat!

Who is Susan?!

I'm assuming that English is not your first language, but for future reference, it is really impolite to call someone's child fat.

Ginger, I think she looks adorable! A very cute little girl! I think the lighting here is much better. It's a nice, even lighting that really lights up her eyes. What bothers me about the picture is the angle it's taken at. I think keeping the camera straight and being down a little more to her eye level, versus above her, would have really helped make the composition much stronger.
And I absolutely love the second picture of her with the towel. It's aodrable!

Thank you very much. I have been playing around with angles when I have my light set up. New 50mm lens makes me work a bit, so I thought I would try new things... but yes, the composition seems to be causing the problems.

I have loads of her at eye level, but I have a habit of getting in too close apparently, so I need to remember to hang back a bit.

That towel's a hit!
