Default Light Stand

Need to get a light stand. Not too expensive, 50 bucks or under preferably but 75 max. I will be using it just for off camera flash at first, but will need it for alienbees with umbrellas/softboxes in the future. How heavy duty do I need to go? I may have to take it with me too, but it doesn't have to be ultra portable, just easy enough to take down and put into the back of my truck. I was looking at this http://http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c...eavy_Duty.html. Will this one be overkill or not? Does anyone have experience with this lightstand?

Thanks.

P.S.- This is just for a small, in the basement studio setup.

An AB1600 weighs 3.7 lbs. The 30"x60" softbox weighs 7 lbs. The max weight you can put on that stand is 10 lbs. This all according to specs from the websites.

I'd probably get something that could support around 12 lbs if possible.

Okay, I'll keep looking around.

Thanks

Edit: Here's a another one http://http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c...eavy_Duty.html. This one says it holds up to 22 pounds. That should be enough and it is in my budget. Now, how tall should they be? My basement ceiling is only 8 feet, but if I use it outdoors or at a different location, how tall should I be looking to get?

That one should work fine.

How tall of a stand depends on your lighting scheme you'll be using. If you shoot a 9 ft tall model then you'll probably need a 11 ft stand.

Seriously though, There are lighting schemes where you'd want a 13 ft tall stand. I can't see needing anything taller consistently for the work that I do. That's just me though.

I've had a bunch of cheap light stands and now I use Avengers. Worth the extra few bucks. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...ght_Stand.html

I took a look at those, but I can't justify spending that much on a light stand...so I think I'll go with the impact. Thanks for the help guys.

I buy my stands from an ebay seller, and they rock. 55 lb load. I have used them with a 6' octobox on a 600w/s strobe and don't bother with sand bags indoors. I have bought 9' & 12' stands for $30 & $40 each. They have not let me down yet.

Here is an example:

edit... actually those are not the ones I get. They are around the same price & air cushioned with removable spigots. Same seller, he must not have stock currently

I just looked through some of my stuff to try to find some shots with those stands in them.

I found a couple.

I am pretty sure they were $70 for the pair

it is better to buy a steady light stand regardless the prices. I just drop one of my YN560, just after 2 days use... Well, the China product looks more expensive than durable Nikon SB900 if I keep buying new ones..

Hmm, going to buy a USB 200 tripod (2m) to use as lightstand.. How to secure flash on camera bracket?

You'll want something like this to mount a flash on a light stand.
