b) Autofocus's native language = English ; ccting native language = Chinese (frankly speaking, i am only able to write very basic English but yet with lots of grammar / spelling mistakes when I was 26 year old).. As an analogous, if the text happens to be appeared in Chinese, i believe, you might have the same problems as i am having now to understand it as well. The sentences by Aboiement are just too complex for me to understand. I even never see those terms in my life before. Keep in mind, i have yet to build my photography fundamental.

@Autofocus
That's why I still can't get what he tries to tell me.. mind to convert them to standard 1 English or simplify them?

@Graciousness, I thought sharpness is everything, that's why i digged so many criteria about sharpness from articles..

@ Graciousness, I thought "forum" is where we discuss..and therefore, we free to write our unvalidated views... If only validated views are to be written only, then there is no point to have forum that allows only experts to write their validated & verified views. Sometimes, I "import" principles from other fields to test their acceptance level.. I am not trying to change the photography's world, but just to get some positive feedback for better learning...
The problem is not second language. You have enough grasp of the English language to understand what you read.

The problem is your focus and priorities with learning. You are not concentrating and doing what is the basic fundamentalsl of learning photography - using your camera and learning to use and balance the exposure triangle. You've been told time and time again by other forum members what you should do to learn photography. And yet you refuse to listen to what is adviced to you.

Instead you want to NOT use your equipment at all and just want to live and remain in your head. Well, this is simply ridiculous and if you want to keep 'thinking' about calculating light and sharpness with pointless terms and numbers and then insist on others the things that you actually think you are learning but in reality, it's all jumbled pointlessness, then it's not helping you or the community.

Do you really want to learn photography or do you just want to think about it and make yourself sound like you know what the intricacies of it are? Why did you even buy equipments if it's they're not going to be used?

We all get that you are trying to learn. But what you're not getting is that your way of learning is not the path to knowledge, but rather just a path to lazy, meaningless hypothesis.

If you want to talk photography, talk in images.

@Gracious,
Thanks for your comment. I can't really play around with photography while doing my job in my office. Whenever i free in office, i write something to the forum. I seldom access the forum when i get home. I can't really play with my camera as I send all my YN flashes for repair 2 months ago.. and have been waiting for more than 2 months!

My current focus is lighting. WIthout speedlights, i can't do anything. My new flashes are still on the way and not yet arrive..The only thing i can do right now, is to dig what you all think...then apply to my lighting learning.

That's the only thing i can' do right now. At home, i am too busy with my baby; and, I can't really bring my camera while I am doing my project in office..

The book tells "Before you control the lights, you need to describe the lights / lighting". Brightness is one of the three characteristics of light source. So, i am trying to use these characteristics to describe the brightness. Sharpness is among the element that could be used to describe light source brightness.. Well, that is what the book suggests..

ANyway, please browse this website, see his porfolio, and how do you find this photographer? http://www.grantcorban.com/. I may going to be his assistant for free (in order to learn lighting from him in practical way). I am looking for someone like him to learn from.. I help him to carry equipments for free while observing how he place the lighting / shots. However, I might not have the chance.. and I am still waiting. He is much better than other local photographers, but sometimes, i find his photos need to be improved (based on my visual clues). Again, it is always easier to talk.

Ty.

ccting, my friend, I will try to make this as simple as possible. Your problem is that you are trying too hard to be fully knowledgeable about every aspect of photography. And, all this before you actually take the step, or steps in doing it. Believe me, book knowledge and trying to understand the theory is good, but there is no substitute for the practical knowledge of actually doing it. Photography has too many variables, and it is not an exact science. You are trying to make a science out of it, and the only real way to learn is by doing it. You will learn from your mistakes, and as Osmosis said, "get off your ass and start doing it."

Even when I go to an optometrist to get a new pair if glasses, because I cant read distant road signs or have to read from near the top of the eye chart, he doesn't talk in numbers. I look through the eye tester and he asks "can you read the letters or is it blurry or sharp(er)".
It is all perception.

nonsense, sorry you can't tell me that you have such a busy lifestyle that you can't dedicate 20-30 minutes a day for some photos. If you spent as much time shooting as you do writing and trying to over analyze everything to the nth degree, you would be learning how to best use your camera. Sorry, I just don't buy it.
