Default What am I doing wrong?

I can't seem to get enough light to get a properly exposed picture when I'm in my house. I'm using a Pentax 200D, 35mm lens or the kit lens.

ISO: 1600
Apeture:2.4

I've been using the fastest shutter speed that will work, but every.single.picture. is blurry. Granted, I'm generally taking pictures of my kids, but shouldn't I be able to get SOME light in here somehow?

Even directly under 2 bare bulbs, with eight other bulbs in the room, I'm not getting enough light. Yes my living room looks a bit dark to the eye, but it's not like it's hard to read or anything.

So is there some setting in my camera that I could have adjusted wrong? Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Here's a link to a few images with EXIF data.

Does this help?

Cameras need a lot more light than the human eye to see by. What you think of as an adequate amount of light to read by simply isn't enough for a camera. It's entirely possible to be at iso 1600 and f/2.4 and still need shutter speeds longer than you can handhold comfortably to get a good exposure. And chances are, subject motion blur will still screw it up.

Turn on more lights, wait until it's daytime, use a higher iso, a larger aperture, or add flash. These are the options. Most folks go with the flash option.

Flash doesn't need to look harsh like the on-board flash can. Using an external flash, and bouncing the light to make it softer and more diffuse can result in some very pleasing photos.
