good tip, im gonna heve to try this, did you by change take the same shots without metering specifically off the grey tones? if so can you post it

No, I did not. I can usually trust this to yield decent results...one shot, a quick look at the LCD and histogram to confirm, and move on to the next shot. I should also mention that if I can't zoom in tight on the metered area, I will use the camera's center weighted or spot meter setting (although the Canon 20D doesn't have a particularly good spot meter)

well, the section says every aspect of lighting, and to me, ambient is an aspect of lighting, especially when dealing with tricky lighting situations. I had a choice of this section, or how I took it..I settled for this one
