If you're talking about the Pocketwizard Flex tt5 and Mini tt1 then you have to do it manually on the flash unles you have the AC3 zone controller.

Yes i am talking about Pocketwizard. I am working with manual mode in Nikon D700 but the final photo is overlighting. Why this happens? Who makes the light measure? My Sb900 or D700?
I am working with Sb900 off camera equipped with a lastolite softbox.
Thanks for your help

Well really it's a combination of both. If you're flash is set to iTTL then it fires a preflash to determine the amount of light on your subject and outputs what it considers to be the correct amount of light to get a correct exposure. It's not always right. You can change this by raising or lowering the flash exposure compensation on the flash by adjusting the main dial. If the flash is set to manual then you have to determine the correct light output and set the flash accordingly yourself. To start out with try setting it to 1/8-1/4 power. That usually gets you in the ballpark in most indoor settings. Again you adjust this with the main dial when the flash is set to manual mode. Also besides making power or compensation adjustments with the flash you can also control the amount of light with your camera by adjusting your aperture and ISO. Your shutter speed only controls the ambient and will not affect your flash exposure, unless you start exceeding your sync speed.
