I've got 2 SB-600 flashes and I use Cactus V2 triggers to fire them off camera. I'm shooting with a D7000.
Recently one of my light stands fell over and the attachment arm thing on one of the receivers broke off. The receiver still works, but I'm not able to attach it to the light stand or anything like that. My problem now is that I'm getting ready to shoot some indoor high school basketball and my plan is to use the 2 SB-600's attached to the bleacher stands behind the basket. Because I'm unable to use the Cactus V2 receiver (because I can't attach it to the Gorillapod because of the broken attachment arm) I'm wondering if it's possible to set one of the SB-600 to fire in commandor mode while the other one still uses the receiver? So my set up would be this... Cactus V2 trigger on my camera's hotshoe Cactus V2 receiver on one SB-600 Is there a way to set it up so the SB-600 with the Cactus V2 receiver would act as the commandor and set off the second SB-600? I set the SB-600 without the receiver in commandor mode but it doesn't fire when the other one does. Am I doing something wrong or can it not be done this way? Thanks |

The only problem, if someone else fires a flash, your will go off too You could do it with a commander unit (i.e. SB900) if you had pass through ttl like on the stratos trigger Mixing CLS & 2.4 GHZ Triggers

thanks for the info...I was afraid of that.
I was going to try and fix the attachment arm on the broken receiver somehow with some gorilla glue or something like that but I don't know that I would be too comfortable with that while it is attached 15 feet in the air hanging over the side of the bleachers. I will probably just order another receiver but I'm supposed to try this basketball set up on Tuesday... |

You can probably just bungee-cord or tape the flash to the Gorillapod (or to a stanchion) as long as the connection between the transceiver and the flash is still working. Aiming won't be as easy, but with a bit of Red Green ingenuity (
), you should be able to get it to work.
