Default Wireless Flash trigger vs. Flash cord

Looking for more pros and cons of the two off-cam flash equipment choices. From my understanding if I go the wireless route I will lose my iTTL I get with my Nikon SB600 attached on camera. However, I am not sure I want to be limited to 10ft by a cord. If the above scenario is true how difficult would it be for me to adjust the speedlight?

Well you can pay big bucks and get TTL triggers but to tell you the truth you actually have much more control over your light when shooting in manual. Just remember aperture control's flash and shutter speed control's ambient. Once you drill down stops of light in your head it starts to get easy.. For example..

F8.0 1/200 and flash power 1/1 is the same exposure as F5.6 1/200 and flash power 1/2.. So once you get your exposure down as long as you don't change the light to subject distance you can normally keep it pretty constant.. So when shooting with flash think in 1 stop light intervals. I hope I did not confuse you..

The most I would use a TTL cored would be if I had a flash bracket to hold my flash higher..

As bhursey says, if you're taking OCF seriously, you're likely going to want to start shooting in Manual now. Therefore you don't need iTTL/ETTL so I'd go with wireless especially since you can get cheap and very capable triggers like the ones from Gadget Infinity.

Good luck!

In addition to the advice offered above, you can consider a 7.5 meter / 24 foot iTTL cord from Flash Zebra for $55US. He ships to Belgium.

this is what I was leaning towards merely for the fact of not wanting to be tied down with a cord. As always you two have delivered precisely what I was looking for.

Thanks, Rentham! I will check it out. Thankfully I have a Belgian address and a US APO address here so I can save on shipping no matter where I purchase items from.

Until recently, we shot tethered with a iTTL supported coiled cord (~10 feet) that was OK, but quite restricted. Last week I ordered a pair of triggers that support iTTL and we are enjoying the mobility they offer.

Pocket Wizards FlexTT5's. Although we're often shooting with manual flash settings I still wanted to have iTTL capabilities when desired. My wife, who happens to be an excellent photographer, and who is core to our business, is not real technical when it comes to flash. So, on those occasions that she's out shooting by herself I wanted to make it as easy as possible for her to deal with flash
