Default reflectors

Hi, any recommendations for good reflectors? I would like to buy one...not too expensive, and hopefully one I could use myself (a third hand!). Thanks.

Big sheet of coroplast will give you a white reflector at little cost. But they are not collapsible. Almost any window shade will give you a silver one but they tend to run small in size but the subject can hold them at the waist to reflect up into the face. Then you can get the inexpensive three ways for about 50 dollars for the 48 inch size but they don't throw much more light than the window shades do. Use spring clamps and bamboo sticks to hold and position. This only works on windless or close to it days though.

If one of the goals is to be able to handle the reflector by yourself and still be able to operate the camera with your other hand, I would recommend the Lastolite LL LR3641 33-Inch TriGrip Reflector. It's gold on one side and white on the other and has a sturdy hand grip that makes it easy to handle by yourself. They fold up into a small(ish) bag. There are cheaper alternatives but they don't have the same quality handle and only end up spinning in your hand when you try to grip them. They go for about $69 and can be purchased through Adorama or Amazon among other places.
