Cool Orbis Ring Light - You Got one?

Thinking about buying one since I'm having issues finding assistants for windy days. It is hard to do outdoor lighting with umbrellas or softboxes if you are by yourself. Is this a good buy?

Thanks

*I don't have one personally, but we use a real ringflash pretty often when we bring models in for shoots at the studio.

Ring light is very different light than using an umbrella or softbox. I find it much more suitable as fill rather than as the main light because of its flat shadowless appearance. Additionally, you might find it hard to get enough light out of it to balance with the ambient outdoors. The orbis, and similar ringlights that attach to speedlights can often eat up 4 or more stops.

What about putting weights on your lightstands? A gallon of water weighs about 8.35 lbs. Just get some bungee cord and attach it to the handle of the jug and then attach that to the lightstand.

It's not fool proof but it helps with the wind unless it's gale force winds.
