Default beauty dish, white or silver??

What's preferred for a 20" beauty dish, white or silver? Doing portrait work BTW.

Thanks

For a speedlight flash or a monoblock strobe?

Either way, a white dish will give more diffuse light; a silver one slightly harsher (but stronger)

i'd go silver 'cause you can soften it with a diffuser but can't easily do the opposite and make the white harder...

it's for a monolight strobe.

Zona,
that was the same reason I was given elsewhere. Thank you.

On a separate note. Is it possible to do portraits or even very small groups with one key strobe key light, a reflector for fill and a speedlite for hair light??
I'm trying to learn what options I have with what I have. I want a good result and keep things simple if possible. If result will be compromised then that's not an option.

Yes... I don't have a fairly current example, but here is one from when I first started doing portraits. 1 speedlight in an umbrella with reflector. No hairlight, because I am folically challanged

That's great Scott, thanks. Let me ask you though, "umbrella with a reflector", what do you mean??

Yup, do it all the time....you just described our current setup. People are probably sick of seeing this photo, but here it is
