Default 2 flashes, One camera, wired or radio control?

I'm at a point where I'd like to start expanding past the confines of one flash. I currently have a 430exII that most of the time is used on camera and has been used on occasion off camera(handheld). I've made a decision to purchase 2 stands, 2 swivels, 2 umbrellas, and a second flash......

I have my eye on the LumoPro LP160 for the second flash. TTL is not of a concern for my planned use in the near future. I'm looking for an inexpensive way to control both flashes off camera and saw the LumoPro Hot Shoe Universal Translators. Would it be feasible to use these in conjunction with a y-splitter placed on the translator on the camera with miniphone extension cords to each flash separately or am I asking for trouble? I'd like to run 25 foot cords to each flash....

Seems I would need 1 y-splitter, 2 translators (not 3 as the LP160 has a miniphone jack) and cords with miniphones on both ends. I would assume the y-splitter would have to be of the mono type as well.....

Cost is an issue as I'm more of a hobbyist at this point and this looks to be a cheap yet reliable method to achieve my current goals. Am I wrong in this thought? Is it worth looking into some inexpensive radio transmitters instead?

Thanks in advance

That would work just fine. Since you are considering wireless, you should take a look at the new Cactus V5 that just came out. They are transceivers so they can be set as a transmitter or a receiver and it would only cost you $85 for three of them. If I hadn't just received a YN602 trigger set as a gift I would be loading up on the new Cactus triggers.

I'll sell you my cactus V4s if you'd like I've never had problems with them and I've never had a misfire, but I've already purchased some V5s. If you're up for it let me know. It's one transmitter and 3 receivers. Wireless is so convenient I never even started off with wires. Once you try it you won't want to go back.

Thanks for the replies! I did a little research into the V5's. They seem to be a very good product!

Now I just need to make a decision on umbrellas and stands =(
