Woops. It looks like I already posted about using the speedlight with a wireless trigger on the first page. Sorry for the confusion! Most of the photographers I read who use them call them speedlights but some of the shops around here call them flash packs.

The triggers are really coming down in price so you should be able to pick one up for less than $40 through amazon or ebay.

If you are always going to use it off-camera, it doesn't really matter what brand of flash you use. I have a Canon 7D and often use Nikon and YN flashes with my wireless triggers. If you want a flash that is good either on or off camera, it depends on your budget. I have a Canon 580EX II which is very powerful and versatile but is also pretty pricey. The newer YN-467 and YN-468 flashes that will allow you to use eTTL when you have it on the camera and switch to manual when you want to use wireless triggers. You could buy three YN flashes and triggers for the price of one Canon 580.
