The newer ones.... not so much. These are also cheap Chinese manufacture (by Sakar), no longer actually made by Vivitar (just branded as theirs), and that there have been numerous complaints about them dying early deaths on the Strobist Flickr group. Also, the proprietary PC port, lack of swivel, the "missing" 1/8 power setting, and lack of a built-in dumb optical slave put it a bit behind the LP120 and LP160. The old Vivitar 285s were industry workhorses; the newer 285HV not so much.

There's a reason Moishe at MPEX decided to make his own manual flashes.
