I am starting a photography business and am looking for some backdrops that are rather cheap and large enough to do at least a single person to a small family (approx 4 people).
I keep finding that backdrops are 200+ dollars and I am not willing to pay that much for fabric. If you can suggest any fabrics or DIY (do it yourself) projects I would be very appreciative. THANKS! |

You can get reasonably priced backdrops at backdropoutlet.com, and cowboy studio and other places via Amazon.com. I like unique backdrops so I get most of my backdrops for the size you mentioned from a furniture fabric store. Then I sew my pocket and have an instant and nice backdrop. I like this because most of those fabrics are weighted and hang very nicely and don't wrinkle. AND when I buy remnants or cuts form the fabric store they are rolled on a plastic tube so it makes storage super easy--I roll and secure with masking tape after a shoot(no wrinkles).

Paper's awesome, unless you want the wrinkled look of a cloth background. Trying to iron a huge backdrop to remove the wrinkles is a pain in the butt. If you have animals that shed good luck keeping hair off it especially if it's black.
The one time I would prefer to use cloth would be for a black background since the cloth will absorb more light then black paper typically. Also wrinkles don't really show up when using a black background as long as you have enough distance between the subject and background since you light the subject only when using a black background typically.
