Default Can it be done? Nikon D60/SB600 off camera flash...

Hi,

I have a Nikon D60 and recently purchased a SB600 flash, which I currently can only work with on camera as the D60 doesn't support wireless CLS without an SU800/SB800/SB900, all of which are out of budget for the short-term (and more complicated lighting than I need at the moment).

I would love to know if there is anyway I can still get my SB600 off camera as bouncing the flash isn't always ideal...???

Cheers,
M

yup... all you need is a cheap radiotrigger like a CactusV4 or some "E-bay" trigger.

you wont have CLS/TTL ...so all your flash settings will need to be manual power.
check out www.strobist.com for how to do the manual power "thang"

Yong-nuo RF-602s! They can double as a shutter remote, too!

You definitely want to go with cheap radio triggers, because they'll attach directly to the camera and flash's hotshoes. Since neither your camera body nor your flash have PC sync ports, this eliminates the need to convert the hotshoes to some form of sync port.

Since the main Strobist website can be serious information overload, and you could search for days without finding it, here's a link to the basic introduction on setting up for off-camera flash:

Strobist: Lighting 101

And the video on YouTube someone made to help poor unfortunate newbies in information overload:

Thank you, i really appreciate the information!

I did look into the radio trigger options, but couldn't find any info on compatibility with my camera and flash combo in particular.

I went through Strobist's Lighting 101 thoroughly before purchasing my flash so I'm comfortable with the theoretical aspect of lighting but was having trouble working out how to get the flash off-camera.

I mistakenly assumed the D60 would be able to work as a commander flash for the SB600, but missed the one line in the manual that specified 'only with an SU-800 or SB-800 as the master'.

All a learning experience, I know better now :P.

Once again, thank you, now to research radio triggers!

Cheers,
M
