I'm thinking of purchasing a speedlight, or maybe renting one. What modes do I have to shoot in to use this? I generally shoot in auto, but must keep it somewhat simple because of my limited skills. Can you set it with auto and let it flash?
I've been trying to learn the aperature mode. I use the dial to change it but what else do I need to do to get a well balanced image? (I usually use a kit lens. Does that limit the level of aperature I can use?) |

Yes you can use it in auto, or P mode if you want to control your ISO and possibly shoot RAW
If you men using fill in flash to "balance" am image you may find this helpful. http://neilvn.com/tangents/2010/08/1...tl-fill-flash/

Honestly, before spending the money on the speedlight, I'd suggest learning more about shooting with the various modes and getting totally comfortable shooting in manual without a flash. Until you understand exposure 100% you will just be totally confused by adding a flash to it.
Shooting with flash adds a whole new dimension to your photography but it also adds another dimension to consider while shooting. Understand the basics first, then move on to learning flash photography. You won't be disappointed. |
