Default Pop up flash and exposure

Hi everyone!

This is my first post here on DPS forums, and i really must say this is a great community!

I'm sorry if i misspell any word, but English is not my primary language!

I'm New to the DSLR World (i've just bought a Canon Rebel XSI) and i'm using manual mode, i understand how the EV meter works with de ISO, Shutter speed, and aperture. But when i use the pop up flash my pictures tend to get overexposed! even with the EV meter on 0

I really don't know how to calibrate my exposure settings to use them with my pop up flash, can anyone give me a clue! and btw i cant afford an external flash yet!

thanks!!

The only practical use for the pop-up flash is for use as fill flash, outdoors in daylight

Use the flash exposure compensation to adjust the power of the flash.

You can also adjust the flash's power with your settings. Shutterspeed affects the ambient light while aperture affects the flash light. So if you find your flash is on too strong, make your aperture smaller (larger number)

I use it all the time to light my macro photos. It has other uses if you know how to use it.

I know how to use it-I make diffusers to control it,for indoor use-and for macro shots you really need either a ring flash,or twin flashes at 45 degrees to your subject-if you are to have any control of your lighting.Or use a rig like the one below:

I beg to differ. Again, if you know how to use it...

I've performed a thread rewind here. I think Eric has given a strong riposte to the argument that you can't use pop-up flash for macro photography by giving some exquisite examples. Good lines of response would be asking for more details of how those were achieved. The kind of track we were getting onto, despite some attempts to keep it objective, had headed deep into the land of ugly and looked to be getting worse.

If you really must call someone else stupid, by all means scream it at your monitor so loud you have to wipe it clean afterwards. Please don't waste the energy to tap that kind of thing (or "gasoline to a flame" follow ons) out on your keyboard and send them over here.
