I went to see some bands tonight, and had some problems getting good shots. I'm hoping that someone can give me advice on how to shoot in this environment.
The situation is this: this was a small show, on a pretty dark stage, with minimal lighting. I tried everything I could think of to get enough light into the frame, from a wide open aperature to a high ISO setting to full exposure compensation. There was too much movement from the performers to make use of a slow enough shutter speed, and I didn't want to use flash because the performers find it distracting. Of the shots I took, I think I may have gotten a few that may look good, at least after processing, but the shots that I think are workable are all of the same person, because he happened to be under the single white stage light, while the other members were under blue... Are there any tricks that I could use to shoot in these conditions? Thanks. |

Use a spot or center-weighted metering, high iso and large aperture. If that doesn't work, you're limited by equipment. Exposure compensation won't help you with that.
