Default Shoot at night and indoor

Can you help me, I want to take the portrait photography at night and indoor, when I’m using the flash, the picture will turn into more black and when I shut down the flash, it shown the shutter speed is slow then it will cause the picture blur, can I ask, what is the best method or setting with my NIKON D3000 at this situation like this, plus what if I don’t want to use the tripod.

THANK YOU

The word photograph means light writing (or drawing). If you want a good photograph the light must be writing in all of the areas in the image. This means not only must the subject be well lit but also the background and the clothing. Flash is used to add additional light to the image to allow the camera to make a capture at the settings you have set into it. Yes the camera is 'automatic" but you still must think a little bit.

Some rules about shooting outdoors at night (or when it is dark indoors.)

1. You will need to use a high ISO
2. If you don't want to use flash you MUST use a tripod because of the slow shutter speeds
3. Learn to crawl before attempting to walk and learn to walk before attempting to run. In other words learn how to shoot during the daytime first then graduate to night time imaging.
