Someone posted a link to strobist lighting 101 and I have now come away so inspired!!
Checked out Amazon and have now bought:Light stand £12.49 Remote triggers: 28.95 Umbrella 22.43 'brella Adapt 25.33 Flash shoe 9.95 TOTAL £99.15 I can't wait to try out these gadgets and gizmos. I have a friend who isn't working at the moment and has agreed to become my "model". She's really pretty too. I just have one last question: will the umbrella stand blow over in the wind or are they quite stable? You know what regular brollies are like ![]() Also, if anyone has any other suggestions on what I can add to the above list "on a budget" please let me know. Its environmental portraiture that appeals to me most. I don't think I'll ever have a "studio" as such. Thanks for reading ps I do want the Pocket Wizards eventually but right now beggars can't be choosers!

Yes, you will have to be concerned about wind and umbrellas. No getting around that if you're shooting outside and the wind picks up.

When shooting outdoors, definitely keep an eye on your flash stand because it doesn't take a whole lot of wind to knock one of those over - especially with a large umbrella.
You can also look at getting some heavy sandbags to put over the legs of the light stand to give it some more stability. You can buy some, or a lot of people have made their own.
