Default Good pictures with ghetto lighting?

Recently I've gotten back into my photography. Lovin it! And its so good to be back on DPS. ( Had to get a new computer ) So far pretty much all of my work has been outside. I'm trying to explore and focus on my creativity and composition inside now. But of course the problem with that is the lighting. So any tips on how I can achieve the look/effects I want (ie: still get good pictures) and not have to spend a lot. I spent my income tax on computer instead of camera,...trust me it wasnt an easy decision,....but I figured I'm not advanced enough for the DSLR yet. And I already have a lil P&S,..computer is multi-functional. So,...any ideas on a way that I can get clean pictures that arent underexposed or overexposed due to bad lighting. Also something that doesnt give me the various colors that indoor lighting can do. Only equipment I have is my P&S and a tripod.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

If you don't want strange colors always shoot outside or with flash. Over or under exposure is caused by too much or not enough light. Using a P&S severly limits what can or cannot be done photographically. Kinda like wanting to do a portrait painting on canvas when the only brush you have is a four inch house painting brush.
