Default Tungsten Halogen Bulbs

Hi all,

I saw an article about using work lights for low-cost lighting, which uses double-ended halogen bulbs (Putting Together a Budget DIY Lighting System | Shuttertalk). He indicates a type of bulb that is made which illuminates closer to natural light than the standard tungsten lights. However, I cannot seem to find any here in the US similar to what he references - does anyone know where I might find some?

Many thanks!

I don't think they exist in 110 watt. He is from Austrailia, and they are 220 there. If you check the web, there are lots of people from North America looking for 110 daylight bulbs, but I have never seen where anyone has found them.

I found that site while doing some research before. You're not the only one to have an incredibly hard time finding those bulbs. If you read the comments on that page, it seems like every other person cannot find those bulbs. I even tried looking for them for a few days and couldn't find any. I gave up on using those lights for other reasons, though.

A work-around solution for this would be to set a custom white balance prior to shooting with those lights.

Sorry, you seem to be a little confused there. He is talking about lights between 200-500w lights.

You are confusing watts and volts at the moment. Standard potential in american is 110V, so pretty much everything is 110V.

I spend my life dazed & confused! Thanks for the correction, because I did mean volts, but for some reason wrote watts.

If you want "daylight" bulbs try what I tried 30 years ago, but I think you will find what I found, nothing beats a good a/c powered flash unit. This bulb requires a ceramic base like is used in chicken hatcheries to keep the baby chicks warm. Just about any hardware store will have them. You will need to soften these bulbs with a softbox or umbrella. The one listed is 500 watt. Amazon.com: EBW PhotoFlood Lamp 500w 120v (Blue, 4800k): Camera & Photo If I remember correctly they last about three hours but are a lot closer to true daylight than what those tungsten halogen bulbs are.
