I've been plodding along quite happily with my strobes (EX580IIs) with the pocket wizards, but I've occasionally found my shots a little soft as I don't always have enough power to get the aperture stopped down.
So, I've bitten the bullet and ordered myself my first piece of "proper" studio lighting! Not wanting to splash out a big pile of cash, I started small and ordered an Alien Bees B400. I have a shoot at the weekend that I was hoping to use the new light on, so I jumped online and ordered, hoping that I would receive it on Friday and give myself a day to play. Here's the shout out for Paul C Buff Australia The International Home Of Alien Bees, Cybersyncs, Whitelighting, Einsteins. Asia Pacific, who distribute ABs in Australia and in the Asia/Pacific region. Order placed online at 1:30pm yesterday (Monday) and was disturbed from my morning tea by their courier at 10:30am today. Ordered, picked, packed, collected and delivered from Brisbane to Sydney over 1000km away in less than 24hrs. Exceptional! Here's my first shot with the new toy - it's a photograph of my previous new toy! ![]() Canon5D2 | 1/125 | f/16 | ISO400 AB400 @1/8 through umbrella camera right | silver reflector camera left. I'm excited about having enough light to be able to stop my aperture down, can't wait to use it this weekend!

Congrats on the new light! I just purchased a 400 myself and am loving it (the few times I have been able to play) I am experimenting with fill light however... I also used silver reflector on camera left but it isn't as bright as I am wanting... and turning up the alien bee gives too much light. I also own a 580exII which I have not amateured much less mastered! LOL, any tips you can give me on using it.. more importantly if you venture into combining the 580exII with the alien bee I would love to know your tips and tricks!
