Default ISO 800 better than ASA 800?

Hello,

I hope this is the right place for this question but I could not see another technique forum that looks more appropriate.

It seems to me that ISO 800 in my DSLR produces less noise that the grain I used to get from using ASA 800 film in my 35mm camera.

Am I right?

Thanks.

You're very right. The 800iso digital standard was developed from the light collection ability and not the actual noise or grain patterns. Lovely, isnt it.

You can likely push a digital to 1600 before it looks like 800.

(sidenote: whereabouts near ottawa are you? East-end, here).

Thanks. Good to know - for keeping people relaxed for candid portraits without flash or a fast lens.

(far west end - past Kanata)
