A friend of mine got a photovision calibration target and I was playing around with it today and my canon 580ex II with a sto-fen omni bounce. I was surprised how much the sto-fen restricts the light.
For example: For the same exact exposure with the flash in manual ( The calibration target and histogram makes this a great tool to get it exact) with sto-fen the flash is 1/16 +0.3 without sto-fen the flash is 1/2 + 0.7 This is almost 4 stops. With the flash In ETTL mode: with sto-fen the flash is +2 and can not get the right exposure because you only have + 2 flash exp comp. with-out sto-fen the flash is -1/3 I thought this was interesting. I always like using the sto-fen when the flash is on my camera to soften the flash but I can't belive it's almost 4 stops difference. I guess that is why I have to increase the exposure a little in post production. During these tests my camera was set to 1/60 f/5.6. I think I would like to get my own calibration target, I think it would come in handy.
