Hello,
I am going to Yosemite next month to try and get some awesome snow shots of the mountains and trees. Does anyone have any tips on getting that awesome shot? thanks |

First read up on Winter Safety in Yosemite, make sure that you are properly equipped and prepared for the harsh and unpredictable Winter weather there. Nothing can ruin an opportunity like this than to find yourself without the right type of winter survival gear ( survival is the key here). Take nothing for granted be prepared for anything.
After that make sure you have protection for your camera gear. Remember in extreme cold batteries run down very fast, so have extras at least twice as many as you think you will need. If you are driving get a adapter that will allow you to charge your batteries in the car while you are driving. It helps to keep your spares inside your coat where they will be warmer, but once they are in a cold camera they will run down very quickly. After all that read up on the wildlife , landscapes, sun rise and sun set times for the region, all of which will help you be in a good place at a good time. Be sure to post you best shots here for the rest of us to become envious of.

my tip is to bring the widest angle lens you can find... yosemite has sooo many amazing views and its hard to get it all in, but if you have an ultrawide lens you'll come back with some incredible photos.
that is assuming you have a DSLR... i haven't had one any of the times i've been there but i wish i did. guess i'll just have to go back once i have one

irispatch has some good advice. I would add to it by letting someone you know where you are headed in the park and that you contact them when you have safely returned to your car/campsite/hotel room. BRING WATER. Stay on the trails, learn what poison oak looks like if you don't already know. There are bears there and I don't know what their habits are in the winter, so be alert (I do know they do not truly hibernate). Have fun; Yosemite is gorgeous, I haven't been there since high school, and that was in the early 70s.
