Default Long exposure

Experimenting using handheld flash at night and painting with light .

A basic shot relatively unintersting

Lunar Landscape

Same subject but this time from a slightly different :viewpoint and focal length the subject was illuminated by light from an old kero lantern and as there was some cloud cover which was backlit by the full moon I included in the shot to make it more dynamic.

Lunar Landscape 2

Comments and advice tips etc always welcomed.

Kindest regards
Graham

I actually like the first shot. I find it quite interesting. Lots of texture and detail...the shadows are nice.

I am leaning towards the first shot myself but also like the second for different reasons. The first is honest and raw, the second stands out and shouts look at me!

I'd say combine them. You like the clouds a lot. You like the crispness and natural, less orange color of the first one (At least I do). I would try doing a long exposure and then flash your external where you want the rocks to be lit up.
I may actually try that too sometime

Thank you everyone, I tried what you suggested at the time but I found that I got over exposure of the rocks when using the flash, then when I compensated for the over exposure of the rocks I found I lost the cloud , I really needed something to bounce the flash off , say a reflector . Next time
