Default Best Time for photography

Early morning and late evening are the best times for shooting landscapes. This is because the low angle of the Sun picks out shadows and reveals textures.

John,

I have noticed you have been posting on several forums spouting off intelligent sounding phrases but not backing them up with some images to show us You could be simply Googling the subjects and then doing a copy and paste. Put your money where your mouth is and post something to show us you are not some 16 year old wise guy with a point and shoot camera.

Welcome to DPS. Perhaps you might like to go more into depth with your techniques and maybe even give us an example to show the what's what's and where's!

Yes, every book I've read says this.

I, however, have found that rules can be broken if you're creative (and willing to lie down in the dirt- literally- to get a shot)

This was taken at 3:30 p.m.

While the general rule is sound, the colors at dawn and sunset are more vivid, long shadows can also destroy a great shot. During my first visit to Spider Rock, I awaited sunset to take my shots then hated every one of them because of the distinct shadow lines on the pillars. My next trip, I went during midday so as to alleviate any shadow problems. Of course, on my next trip, I plan to shoot Spider Rock from the base!
