Default City at Night

Hi Guys,

Some friends and I are all leaving the country within the same month, so we are going to take some photos of our favourite places to try and keep the home sickness away. Most will be using point/shoot cameras however I will be taking my Nikon D90 camera with kit lenses. I have never taken photos at night using this camera and I am wondering if you can give me tips on how to best capture city night landscapes.

Thanks very much

Erin

Default To keep it simple

Use a Tripod for night photos. If you need the background to be captures use the rear curtain sync mode flash, Try to use a dedicated flash and keep it away from the camera, use the built in flash in the commander mode, use larger apertures when camera is hand held with ISO not exceeding 800, most importantly try not shooting directly in to light, try to take pictures just before or just after sunset to get some good colors on the sky, when shooting friends, if they are seated keep the camera at their eye level, if they are standing keep the camera just about their chest level, always focus on the eyes, D90 is a great camera and things should normally work out. To be sure use the bracketing mode, take a picture less half stop and one more by half stop of the exposure value and you should do fine. Post some pictures for all of us to see.
Hope you have not already moved out by now, Merry Christmas.
