Default HDR Landscape

This is another of the dead trees from Windsor Great Park. I took three exposures and used the merge to hdr option in CS3.
I'm quite new to hdr and still have to figure out how to program my camera to take the pictures without me having to manually set the exposures, It's amazing how quickly clouds move..!!.
I would be interested to hear what you think of the finished picture

It seems overly blue. Were you setting your white balance manually or is this because the clouds moved quickly and in HDR they turned more blue? Aside from that I think the picture turned out good. The tree has a very interesting shape to it. I can see why you would want to photograph it.

By the way, I don't know what camera you have, but there should be a bracketing function that will help you in your HDR shots. If you have that, you should be able to set it to take 3 different exposures as you press the button for 3 shots.

I think the bluing was caused by the process as i was using AWB and you can see a slight movement in the clouds due to the time it took me took manually change the exposure.
I have been looking for the bracketing function on my Nikon D40X but to no avail. No mention in the manual and i can't find an online reference, guess i just don't have that available.

Love the tree and composition but I would remove the blue color cast. Look for a setting called AEB in your camera that should be the Automatic Exposer Bracketing.

What program are you using to generate a HDR file then tonemap it?

I used CS3 to merge the photos but i think i might have gone a bit too light on the over exposed one of the three. Just checked for the AEB in the manual and no mention of it whatsoever. Can i assign the Fn button on the front of the camera to change the exposures..??

Ah, right, ok, the D40 doesn't have bracketing, so yep, you have to do it manually (and that's also why you can't find it in the manual ).

Yep, I've heard that from several people that it's a bit of a pain doing HDR because of that. I believe that the D40 is the only model with this limitation though. And that's probably because they seem to target the D40 mainly at people who are P&S snappers. Now of course we know that's not the reality based on the number of people who make good use of the D40's here, but you know companies Sorry for that tangent Lurch

That really stinks I wonder if they will create an update firmware for the camera to enable this feature it woudln't be to hard. Have enough people complain and they may just do that
