this scene ...

... was a battlefield in the American Revolutionary War. It is taken from the location of the British lines facing toward the American lines. The battle itself lasted just one hour in an American victory which set in motion the events which eventually led to the British surrender at Yorktown, Virginia. It was also the only "double envelopment" of the war.

I find it interesting how time has healed the wounds and scars from the battle and the battlefield is now a place where a family can spend a quiet afternoon together, people can go jogging on the trails, and pursue peaceful activities now.

The dirt path in the picture is the Historic Green River Road which was present during the battle. It has been preserved as a hiking/walking/jogging trail through the park. It is lined with historic markers that describe some of the history of battle, the times it took place in, and the people that lived/fought/and died here.

Nice shot. Knowing the history, makes it even better. Was this a vacation shot, or do you live nearby?

Thanks. We live nearby. I've always meant to go out there, but never did. I decided to take my son out somewhere today to give my wife some time alone. He wasn't that thrilled about it when I first told him what we were going to do. By the time we got there though, he was excited and he had a good time. He's seven years old and has my old point and shoot now. He really had a blast taking photographs with it. I think he got some good shots of his own, although I haven't looked at them on the computer yet. They looked good in the little 1" LCD on the camera though.
