Default Finding places.

I was just wondering how people locate places. Tips and such for not only
me but people who want to wander through this thread.
How do you guys find new places too shoot and travel to ?

Most of the time I look at images from articles and magazines or from
blogs that are around my way and take a trip there.
I love to roam around mindlessly down one road but I don't have a car so i can
never stray too far without worrying about the long walk home. If I can remember
the way that is . Also don't feel safe most of the time when you meet random people
from neighborhoods that aren't your own.

Would love to share how everyone finds landscapes. Please share.

Go to Google Maps and look for "green spots" (parks) in your area. You can then research them a bit more to see if there's anything worthy there.

I very much enjoy hiking and spend countless hours roaming around in the forest and along various hiking trails. Always find something worthy of capturing.

I do a lot of exploring, hiking and walking, on my travels I like to make notes of interesting places that I can return to at the right time.

I would expect this to be a bit tougher if you live in a city as you would probably need to go out of your way a bit.

Default Google Earth

Google Earth is much better choice to pre-survey an area you considered worth the try...
It can zoom close enough so you can guess what's down there...
Then if it's worth enough, take a real survey with a small amount of kit just in case you found something outstanding there...
If it's really worth the try, come again, this time really with your full preparation ^^
I'm using that method to survey places for my landscapes

Cheers

though I don't know the tricks to google earth I tend to use google maps more often.
It's just about the same thing only there's the street view option.

I hear about places from other people or explore new places with friends, and sometimes I think back to places I have already been and revisit them for new picture opportunities. Also when you go out places without your camera, take a look around and see if you can find anything new that would be good to photograph.

I've found some of my favorite shooting spots by just following small roads that don't look like they go any where. A few weeks ago, I followed a small road that I though only went a few hundred feet, but instead went about10 miles up into the mountains, deep into forest. I've found many spots like that. Just be open minded, and willing to explore.
