Hello David,
Iam trying to put together a filter kit for my landscape shots as per this post by Darwin Wigget. At the moment my biggest problem is that I cant figure out the terminology of the Cokin Z filters for graduated neutral density. Why do I want to use a polariser with the GND filters. To increase saturation, remove reflections and glare. Cokin makes one for this Z-Pro series filter holder. Here is a link to how the system works just incase Iam losing everyone here. Iam not after screw on filters I have a couple of these already. Any help with my questions would be appreciated. |

As I mentioned before, it's very tricky to use a polarizer with an ultrawide. Even at 18mm, the polarizing effect will be uneven, because the angle of light entering the lens will vary enormously from one side to the other. Skies will be extremely unevenly blue, reflections will appear and disappear depending on where you're looking, and saturation will be uneven as well. While it's possible, I don't recommend bothering with a polarizer if you're going to be anywhere wider than 20mm.

If you want to create natural HDR photos, take a look at Hugin, it creates much more natural results than most HDR packages. And it can do regular and HDR panorama shots as well. Here is an example:
