you shot this at F5.6 iso 100 I would have stopped the lens down a little further to perhaps F16 - F22 and use a tripod you could have gotten the background in focus as well as the cactus. Is this place near by you? I've always wanted to go to the desert it has that mystical feeling to it.

The composition is good and the time of day you took it at was a good choice as well. Nothing wrong with the picture I can see besides using a better depth of feild.

thank you for your suggestions...DOF is one of my nemesis right now...
I am working it out though.

by the way...I am in Virginia...I happened to be on business in Vegas..
the whole gambling/arcade scene was starting to get to me, so I decided
to head out of Vegas and just outside about an hour away I found this place
Redrock NV...very interesting place...miles and miles of open country.
