Default How to produce the Michael Levin style?

people, I recently bought a canon t1i, and Im a big fan of michael levin photos
Michael Levin Photography

I know that it can be done using longer shutterspeeds, but where can I get some information so I can increase my sharpness, etc.

Also is there any way I can photograph in daylight using long shuter speeds. I set the aperture so less light would pass on it, but still, the image burns out when I use longer shutter speed.

Is there any advice?

And please what techniques should I follow in order to have the effect that michael achieves.
I think he uses film. Is my camera powerful for those kind of stuff?

Regards

Those pictures look like they're heavily post processed (photoshopped.)

To use long shutter speeds in daylight, make sure your ISO is set at the lowest possible setting and stop down the aperture. If that's not enough, you can buy neutral density or polarizing filters which cut down light entering the lens.

Hope this helps.

Some of it is photoshop, but the majority is SUPER long shutterspeeds. Im talking half an hour or longer.

That's easy enough to do, especially in digital and especially in black and white (much more forgiving).

You'll need a couple of things: A lens, camera and some filters. Any lens should do, any camera should do: a good starting point is seeing what kind of exposure you get at f/8 or f/11 @ 100iso and go from there

You'll need Neutral Density filters. Heavy duty ones. B+W make a ND1000, which is 10 stops of light.

So if you can get away with a 10s exposure normally, then throw a ND1000 onto the front, you're looking at a shutterspeed of just short of 3 hours. Any movement is totally erased in that time.

I believe most of his photography is long exposures done at night followed by some Photoshopping....if I'm not mistaken.

I think he uses film. And yes, looong exposures.
But my camera maximum is 30 sec. anyway I think that I can get the white ocean, but not the clouds .

The most important things you need for this type of photography are:

1 ND filters, strong ones.
2 Camera with a bulb setting
3 Locking cable release, you don't want to sit holding the shutter for hours
4 Finally: A very sturdy tripod. You don't want your camera blowing in the wind.

Your camera has a bulb setting you can have the shutter open as long as battery life remains.
