Here's one that's not an HDR. After playing with photomatix for a while with this photo (3 jpegs actually) I realized there was too much movement between the shots to get them to line up properly. It looked OK in the small version, but enlarged you could see that I should have used a tripod (I know, I know). So I took the best one of the three and applied the orton effect, and I really like the result. Any thoughts?

I really like the contrast and richness of the colors. I also like the light filtering through the trees on the ground. Good use/choice of effect on this shot. The only thing that's missing is me screaming down the trail on my mtn. bike!

I like it a lot. The colors are wonderful and the effect makes it kind of dreamy like.

aadam I thought the same thing...a great place to ride.
I like it alot the ortonizing works well here and I really like the idea of the sky beyond the trees.....you just make out a blue sky through it all. Really nice catch and the choice for filtering is spot on.

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments!
Peeper -- I always think highly of your post-production work, so I'm glad you like it. I actually think it was one of your threads here (don't remember which one) that caused me to look into the orton effect in the first place. aadam and xxpinballxx -- Thank you both. I had the trail almost entirely to myself on that particular hike, but I hear it's a popular place to ride on the weekends. I too really like how just enough sky peeks through the trees. Windrider -- The dreamy look is one of my favorite parts of using this technique. It seems to work best for me in borderline overexposed shots or ones that at least have lots of light. Shewolfe -- Welcome to the forum, and thanks for the comments!

It's the hike to Lost Lake, near Vail, CO. The trail/trailhead have the same name. I've posted some other shots from the same hike, still working through all the photos from that day.
