Smile Lens for 400d

Hi all,
I shoot landscape, architecture and portraits and plan to upgrade my equipment in phases. I have Canon 400 D and plan to buy a Canon 70-200 f 2.8L IS lens. Does this lens works well with this body as I wish to buy 5D on a later date.

I also have a 400D, and recently purchased the Canon 70-200 F2.8 (no IS) and I'm thrilled with it. It's heavy, and I don't have a ton of opportunities to use it, but the results have never failed to impress. While I would have liked the IS version, I realized that the kind of pictures I take aren't good for IS... IS won't stop the people from moving.

Considering what you like to shoot, I'm surprised you are going for something on the longer range. Do you have a good wide angle yet? Something like the 24-70mm?

If you're planning on moving forward to a 5D, all you need to avoid are EF-S lenses. All the EF lenses work fine (if possibly not at their very best) on crop bodies, and in fact some may perform better on a crop body than on full frame, since corner performance is "boosted" by the crop: most lenses have an image circle that's best at the center, and weaker towards the edges. A crop sensor ignores the edges.
